★ Curator’s Notes ★

Clairol’s Touch of Yogurt shampoo sounds like breakfast took a wrong turn in the shower. It wasn’t just a joke name: the Los Angeles Times reported in 1986 that Clairol test-marketed the shampoo and abandoned it in 1979. Marketing researcher Robert McMath suggested a different name might have helped. Yogurt already had a perfectly good home in the refrigerator.

A hair-care product with breakfast energy. The shower was not asking for a parfait.
